014: How Giving Can Make You Feel Most Alive | BECKY STRAW
Summary::
I came away from this interview wanting to be instant friends with Becky, as her passion for helping others is undeniable. She is a founder of The Adventure Project, a non-profit that’s working to see the end of poverty in our lifetime. Prior to The Adventure Project, Becky spent three years helping to launch Charity: Water, an organization bringing drinking water to people in developing countries.
It’s so beautiful when people find ways to work towards their passion, even when it means having to raise a lot of money and working with people on the other side of the world, but the Adventure Project is doing just that and taking huge strides at eradicating poverty.
The best part is, YOU can be involved!
On this episode, Becky discusses the advances her company is making to empower people living in extreme poverty and shows simple ways that you can get involved.
“We don’t give handouts. Instead, we support comprehensive job training so people can earn a living and provide lifesaving services to their communities. We do it because it’s empowering. And it is the fastest way to end extreme poverty in our lifetime.”

012: From Ski Injury to Thriving Adventure Non-Profit | ROY TUSCANY
Summary::
Roy Tuscany was in a life-altering ski injury in 2006, and because of the generosity he was shown in ways of funding towards his recovery, he decided the best way to give back was to create a company that could help out people who find themselves in a similar situation that he was. This guy is the real deal and you can’t help but smile when you hear about everything he is doing.
He created the nonprofit High Fives, which provides grants for people with life-altering injuries to get back into sports and helps aid in the mental and physical recovery of these guys and girls using state-of-the-art programs they’ve put into motion. With the positive mentality behind this company, they are growing at an incredible rate to create change and a more fulfilling life for so many people. I have no doubts that you’ll enjoy hearing Rob discuss all of this in finer detail.
“When you go outside of your comfort zone, you experience growth. If you’re experiencing positive growth, that will allow you to overcome challenges or hiccups that weren’t anticipated in your life.”

011: How to Maintain Energy All Day Long
Summary::
Last year, I brought back awesome memories back from a month-long trip in SE Asia. Except that wasn’t the only thing. I also came back with a nasty bug that destroyed by digestive system. I won’t say it was a blessing in disguise, but it made me extremely focused on exactly what I was putting in my body because any tiny thing I ate wrong would cause me to feel so awful! During that time, I was often lacking any extra energy, so I completely cleaned up what I was eating in order to help me perform at the highest possible level.
One thing I discovered during this clean eating journey was that everyone’s digestive system is VERY different. so my point is DON’T GIVE UP!! Just because something you read doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t mean everything will be a lost cause.
For example, I started drinking green smoothies because I heard raving reviews and thought I would be doing my body a favor. Only to realize a month later that my daily smoothie was what was causing me extra discomfort. Once I stopped having them, I felt so much better! So keep trying things. Your body will respond rather quickly and you’ll have noticeable changes within a few weeks. Weeks, not hours. You still have to be a little patient.
So onto the juicy information. What should you eat to maintain energy??
For starters, healthy fats! Incorporate more healthy fats into your diet. Eating healthy fats does not equal gaining fat; healthy fats provide lasting energy, which in effect makes you stop craving quick sugary snacks! Attempt to slowly give up any snacks that have too much sugar (look at the grams on the nutrition label) AHA recommends no more than 25 grams a day.
Examples: Coke = 35 g, glass of OJ = 22 g.
Even good stuff like yogurt can trick you by putting sugar-heavy fruit puree inside. Opt for bulk Plain Full-Fat yogurt with fruit and a drizzle of honey.
Ideas for foods high in Healthy Fats:
- Avocado
- Whole eggs
- Fatty fish
- Nuts
- Chia Seeds
- Dark Chocolate
- Coconut Cream & Oil
My almost-every-day breakfast is wilted kale or spinach with eggs any style, and occasionally some tomatoes or cheese sprinkled on. This easily keeps me satisfied until my late lunch.
I’m also a sucker for coffee, if it’s early I’ll drink bulletproof for the early morning fat intake, but if it’s later, ill have cold-brew with cream, coconut milk, or homemade almond milk. I’ve started making my own and it is DELICIOUS. The sweetness comes from a date I put in – yum! Dates are my new best friend instead of any sugar. And a quick note on fake sugars…just don’t! As they cause more addiction than regular cane sugar.
If you want a great food map, look up the bulletproof diet roadmap. Dave Asprey digs into food like none other, and even if you aren’t on the bandwagon with fad diets, his food map is clutch when wondering what are the cleanest foods for your body. I often refer to it when I’m not sure what my digestive system will like better. He focuses on a lot of organic veggies, grass-fed or wild protein, healthy oils & fats, fruits, and of course, bulletproof coffee.
I’m not getting into Lunch and dinner on this episode, but I will touch on some great snacks for any mid-day cravings. I made a fun chart of these as part of the blog post earlier this week, so make sure to refer to that if you forget!
- Trail Mix! PHGB
- Apple/Banana with Nut Butter
- Air popped sprouted Popcorn w/ Coconut Oil
- Mini Frittata
- Protein Balls
- Green Tea or Matcha Mylk
- Veggies and Hummus or Guac
- Berries
Any of these snacks will easily get you through until dinner while also leaving you extremely satisfied, plus not causing any more crashes throughout the day.
It’s easier than you think to stay motivated throughout the entire day, all it takes is setting yourself up for success. Go grab a few of these items from the store this week and start to raise your energy levels!
And lastly, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!

009: 5 Companies that are Making a Global Impact
Summary::
If you listened to the new episode this week, you know it was all about the power of GIVING BACK! if you haven’t noticed by now, giving back is a huge part of the Passion Design Project and its one of the first things I look at when deciding which guests to have on.
A Huff Post article said it well:
“There aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe the significance of giving back. Even the most simple acts of benevolence — the ones we think of as “random acts of kindness” or “no big deal” — are actually incredibly important. Volunteering in all shapes and forms strengthens our communities, brings people together and provides us with valuable experience and insight. And selfishly, when I give my time and energy to others, I just feel better — about myself and my community.”
There are so many ways you can get involved on your own and in today’s episode I talk about some of my favorites.
-
Pencils of Promise
-
The Adventure Project
-
World Bicycle Relief
-
Compassion International
-
A21

007: How to be a Leader
Summary::
Earlier this week, Tim Walther talked on the podcast about tactics for thriving teamwork and leadership. I wanted to stay on that note so today we are discussing traits of leaders.
A year ago I went to a conference called Leadercast, where speakers gave their 2 cents on what makes for a great leader. So today I pulled out my notes from that to talk with you about a few ideas that were touched on.
1. Leaders say “I’ll do it”
MYTHS: leadership is reserved for bold people, fearless people, it requires a specific gift/talent, or is only for the ultra smart and talented.
*Bold leaders say wow! instead of how?
Go on to find CLARITY, FOCUS, RESOURCES, and often use stubbornness to make things happen
2. Lean into pain as a growth opportunity
Don’t focus on “being brave,” focus on attacking the fear.
Eventually, weaknesses become strengths and you will forget why you were so nervous.
Make Bold corrections to get bold results.
Ex: Is my job wrong? Do I need to change my diet? If you make these bold changes, bold results will follow.
3. Do not rethink every decision
Surround yourself with smart, bold people; listen to their advice, and then trust my decisions.
Even if it’s risky, risk often = biggest gains/most reward.
Constantly be risk seeking.
Keep it simple: Walk with a purpose and make a difference.
4. Take advantage of your circumstances
If you are in a position as a leader, speak out!
Stop waiting for someone else to step forward, and constantly be asking, “How can I help?
NEVER let fear overcome COURAGE
Bravery should consistently show up in things that I do daily.
Tell yourself, “I have the right to make this world better.”
Anyone who waits for someone else to initiate change is a FOLLOWER. Be an emerging leader, even if everyone else is going the opposite direction.
Put yourself in the position to win:
- learn to thrive on being uncomfortable (have fierce conversations, continuously try to dive deeper than the surface of people)
- devote yourself to intense preparation
- invest in a coach with knowledge and insight to break down what I’m doing and see things that I don’t
- find a way to instill trust. (you must earn respect before trying to lead)
- don’t look back on past decisions, embrace new actions instead
- become a master observer
- understand the relationships that create a winner; remember you are the average of the 5 people you most surround yourself with
Don’t be afraid to work on weaknesses (you either get better or worse every day)
5. Bravery is putting oneself outside your comfort zone
BRAVERY is NOT for other people, it is for ME
You must be brave enough to fail
Take INITIATIVE, take RESPONSIBILITY, be a bridge to allowing change to occur, and constantly have compassion on the people around you.
6. Freely Failing
Fail often, fail early
It’s okay to feel like a fraud, most people do
Failure’s 2 meanings:
- you fail, learn, get better
- it means you aren’t smart or good enough
It’s better to fix the problems instead of trying to prevent them all.
In other words: polish your rough ideas into perfected diamonds.
7. Thinking different and removing the public’s opinion
It’s easy to stay safe and be the status quo, but if I don’t step up, who will?
Come to serve not to be served.
Fear = invisible prison
You were made to make an impact. Think about the impact that could be had if I step up in my business.
Elevate my expectations of myself! Dream a vision that is much too big to achieve by myself and empower everyone around me to get to the next level.
Serve for a purpose, not praise
8. Do what is right, with no expectations
To make good decisions you must have:
- Strong beliefs (even through opposition stick with them)
- Optimism (make yourself a problem solver bc people follow solutions)
- Bravery (Practice and have courage in yourself)
- Preparation (run through all the possibilities and overachieve to make things easier)
- Teamwork (Hold people accountable and empower them)
- Communication (tell people your motives, you can’t expect them to read your mind)
You will be happiest when you find the place where you can contribute. If you care for people, people care for you!
Leadership can come about in many different forms,so find the one sentence that resonated with you the most, and improve on in it in your life this week.
If nothing else, decide that you will take a risk this week and leave me a comment on what you did. It can be as big as you want or as small as trying a new food.

005: Attracting Success with Positive Vibes
Summary::
A year ago I went to a financial conference in Calgary, Canada (awesome area, by the way, hello Banff!) and one of the main areas they focused on was developing and maintaining a mindset for success.
I must admit, I was a little weirded out. Reading positive reinforcement out loud seemed a bit awkward and egotistical to me. I’m doing just fine, thanks.
After I left, I decided I could do without that part, which they seemed to think was so important, so I put the attitude worksheet in a drawer.
Then about a month ago, I had a realization that I often let my mind wander to what I don’t have yet, rather than continuously ingrain what I DO want in my mind. My mindset has had way more power over me than I thought!
Anyone with me? Evaluate yourself for the next few days and check if you’re repeating more positive affirmations in your mind or constantly circling back to stresses. It could be a game changer!
Here are a few reasons how a positive mindset contributes to success in many areas of life ad how to implement this mindset immediately.
